Breathwork is a term that describes a combination of thereputic breathing exercises used to improve mental, physical, and spiritual health. Many forms of breathwork therapy exist, each with their own modality of using breath for cleansing, relaxation, and recovery.
In general, breathwork sessions involve deep, focused breathing that lasts for an extended period of time.
The goal of any breathwork therapy is to provide support in achieving a greater sense of self-awareness, an increased capacity to experience health and energy, and an overall improvement in mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Stemming from Eastern practices like yoga and Tai Chi while also incorporating Western psychotherapy techniques in order to bring about mindfulness of breath, breathwork can also include elements of talk therapy, art, music, movement, and bodywork.
